List of parties to the Geneva Conventions

The Geneva Conventions consist of seven individual treaties which are open to ratification or accession by any sovereign state. Below is a list of state parties to the Geneva Conventions.

A date indicates the year the state ratified or acceded. An "S" indicates that the state has signed but has not yet ratified. A "—" indicates that the state has taken no action.

 China 1956 1983 1983  Macau was declared by China to be covered by its ratification from 20 December 1999.[5] There is no such declaration over  Hong Kong, where the corresponding British declaration is not in effect since 1 July 1997.[6]

  1. ^ Year the state ratified or acceded to the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Geneva Conventions of 1949. As of December 2009, every member state of the United Nations, plus the Cook Islands and the Holy See, was a party to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949.
  2. ^ Year the state ratified or acceded to Protocol I of 1977. An "S" indicates that the state has signed the Protocol but has not yet ratified it. A "—" indicates that the state has taken no action with respect to the Protocol.
